Vor den beiden fachwissenschaftlichen Hintergründen - Schöpfung ist eine Erzählung über einen guten Anfang; Evolution ist die Beschreibung zur Entstehung und Entwicklung der verschiedener Arten – wurde im Rahmen dieser religionspädagogischen Grundlagenforschung die Kommunikationsform Argumentieren nicht nur fachspezifisch sondern auch fachübergreifend ausgelegt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die untersuchten Schülerinnen und Schüler argumentieren und dabei unterschiedliche Muster fachspezifisch aber auch fachübergreifend einsetzen. Fraglich bleibt, ob sie die Muster bewusst verwenden.
